Messaging Over Production: Convey Your Core Value Clearly

Creating content online opens up tremendous opportunities to grow our business and connect with potential clients and customers. However, in our enthusiasm, it's tempting to try to emulate the online "gurus" and create content everywhere all at once. While admirable, this scattered approach rarely succeeds.

To truly profit from our content, we must hone our focus. Rather than spreading ourselves thin across every platform, we should start by picking one or two key channels and nailing our strategy. For example, fully optimizing our reach on Facebook and LinkedIn before considering expansion. This concentrated approach allows us to best serve our audience too - tailoring content specifically to each platform community.

Of course, focusing our efforts requires that we first understand all the moving parts, or "levers" involved in content creation. As Luis outlined, these include what we say, how we create that content, producing it, distributing it, monetizing it and managing the overall process. Honestly assessing our skills here is crucial - where do we currently excel and where do we need the most help?

Often creators emphasize fancy production quality over effectively conveying their core message. But remember, quality messaging beats slick production every time for engaging our community. So focus first on clearly communicating around problems you solve for people.

Experimenting with formats helps us discover what we most enjoy creating as well. Do we love writing blogs? Recording podcast interviews? Filming YouTube videos? Identifying the styles we like producing keeps motivation and consistency high.

Next, conduct an audit of resources, capacity and core messaging to build our "content pyramid" specific to our business. Resources mean people and budget - it's just us or do we have a team? Capacity looks at available time - how much can we realistically create on an ongoing basis? Messaging asks who we serve and what problems we solve.

This pyramid helps set a sustainable consistency target for content output that aligns with our resources. Collaborative content formats like podcast interviews are great for efficiently building authority and relationships while supporting our business interests.

As we create content, continually measuring engagement rates and conversion data allows us to keep optimizing. But remember, building an effective content machine takes patience and consistency over the long-term. Resist comparing yourself to others - instead start small, focused and expand your content efforts progressively over time. The compounding benefits of consistency will grow your authority, trust and business.
